Riverside Cottage

6th May 2010
At the beginning of spring, we set about uprooting all the old mixed hedges at the front of the property. We had decided to replace these hedges with a 6 foot picket fence, thankfully due to some tree work being carried out throughout the rest of the garden this project has been somewhat delayed. Now, we have become quite used to not having any barriers down the driveway and love the way the river opens up as soon as you open the front gate and walk down the driveway. However, we still have a slope of bare soil that is just begging to be turned into something special. While cutting back trees in other parts of the garden we found some great stones and rocks around the place, which gave us an idea, perhaps we’ll attempt a Zen/Rock/Terrace Garden.
We completed works in 1 week planting a small Acer and Conifer along with several beautiful purple Iris’ from 2 well stocked nearby garden Centres: St Johns Garden Centre, Barnstaple and RHS Rosemoor, Torrington which are both within 15 minutes drive from Riverside Cottage and well worth a visit.
